This grafted spruce is being trained over volcanic pumice stone. The picture is from when it was on display in Lee's Japanese Restaurant. When displaying an outside tree indoors it is important not to let it over stay, outdoor trees need to be outdoor to survive. For the winter most outdoor Bonsai trees need protection from the deep freezes and harsh winter winds.
So as winter is sure to arrive, protect theose tree so they will survive.

African Jade Bonsai Tree
Here is one of my larger Bonsai. This is an african jade also know as elephant toes. Most of my trees are outdoor Bonsai, though this one can't be allowed to freeze. Many of the trees that you see in the malls this time of year are tropical bonsai, so if you are considering purchasing one or more, then take the time to learn what your new tree will need to survive.
I collected this tree from Hawaii about 10 years ago. When it arrived from the islands the container and plant was badly broken. The original planting was in a large piece of lava, it was repotted and trained in cascade. Estimated to be 25 years old.
Thursday
Bonsai Mountain
A freshly planted Bonsai. My intention is to grow a mountain forest. I will post updates every few months.

Bamboo and The Mantis
The watchful eyed Mantis is a beneficial predator for the organic garden. This one was photographed just outside my back door on on of the bannana trees.
This is the ever changing corner of my garden. There is a bat house hidden in the bamboo and a traditional bird's bath surrounded by mixed perennials.
A very nice backdrop for my Bonsai trees.

Bonsai on display
A twelve year old Pomergranite tree growing on the edge of a cliff. This tree has been trained in root over rock style for the last 8 years. pomergranite trees like bright light and warmer climates for ideal growth.
When training root over rock style, you will need a lot of patience and time. I will be posting the proccess of creating this style of Bonsai soon. One of my oldest trees and is due for an overhaul to show its age better at approximate age of 54. With a very thick truck and strong branching the plan is to open it up some and create some dead wood Jin. This tree will be spending the winter planted in well drained soil.
These trees are on display at Lee's Japanese, a fantastic Korean Japanese resturant in Wayne, N.J.
